The Inn has marked multi-use trails meandering through our forest. Our 11-acre property has a mixture of
mature forest, grassy meadows, marshland and high rocky outcrops. If you're lucky you might catch a
glimpse of Charley, our resident beaver, in his pond or a doe and her twins while strolling along the
trails. (Note: a doe usually has twins)
The trails can be used by those who like to get a work out before that first morning coffee, or may be want to get a helping of our great northern air. Usually in the summer we have a camp fire going different times of the day. We encourage guests to sit around the fire. The fire gets lonely if you do not and it has been known to pray for rain.
A beautiful sandy public swimming area is available, only five minutes from the Inn, which features a beach, changing rooms, diving platform, play ground equipment, B.B.Q's and picnic shelters. Why pay for expensive, noisy, cramped lake front resorts when you do not have to?
You can launch your water craft at the "Government Boat Dock" in Magnetawan. It has a concrete ramp and mooring facilities (five minutes from the Inn). Gas, oil and service parts are readily available from several sources.
The Inn, the nearby Village of Magnetawan
and the surrounding area all have
a lot to offer the outdoor enthusiast. Click here for an area map.
Boat rentals (approx $65.00 per day) are located 1.5 km from us. If you have your own boat there is a
free concrete boat launch ramp in the village of Magnetawan and all new docks for docking (6 km from us).
We are 5 minutes from Ahmic Lale and Lake Cecebe beaches. The two lakes are very large and interconnected
by a 1 km portion of the Magnetawan River. The two lakes are divided by a lock and there is a boat ramp
on either side. The lock is used to transport boats from one lake to another lake which differ in height
by about 16 feet.
The Village of Magnetawan is very proud of it's newly rebuilt locks and all the heritage that stands behind them. The locks, which you can boat through, drop the water level from Lake Cecebe to Ahmic Lake about 10 feet. Ahmic Lake and Lake Cecebe are joined together by a short section of the Magnetawan River, which flows from Algonquin Park all the way to Georgian Bay. The Village of Magnetawan straddles both of these big lakes.
Only five minutes from the Roundstone Inn there are two excellent public boat launches in the Village of Magnetawan. One ramp, which is paved with concrete, is on Lake Cecebe and is above the locks (east). The other boat ramp, which is gravel, is on Ahmic Lake just below the locks (west). There are many other "private" pay per use ramps but the two above are the closest to the Inn. The Magnetawan boat launches have mooring slips and auto and boat trailer parking. (You may be required to pay a nominal fee.) If you do not own a boat, you can rent one locally. Expect to pay an average of $50.00 to $85.00 per day for a boat, motor and life jackets. The Roundstone Inn would be more than pleased to reserve a boat on your behalf.
On a good day water skiers will find ample stretches of open "flat as glass" water, just perfect
for some barefoot skiing. Even in our busy summer season water traffic is no where near as congested as on
many southern Ontario lakes. If you had the stamina you could ski 64 kilometers (40 miles) one way on our
chain of lakes before turning around to come back. I bet you would sleep well that night after that marathon.
Gasoline, oil and service parts are available in town at Magnetawan Marine Service and Magnetawan Car Care,
a Shell gas station.
For people who like the hypnotic sound of a wooden paddle cutting the water, Magnetawan area lakes are worth a trip. Canoe enthusiasts will find numerous streams, little inlets and the lazy Magnetawan River to explore. The Mighty Mag as it's called, is not always lazy. In the spring white water rafters flock to the area to take advantage of the rushing "snow melt" water. They launch their kayaks and rafts, 2 kilometers west of The Roundstone Inn, at Knoepfli Falls. These falls, during the summer, make a great natural Jacuzzi on those hot days. If you do not own a canoe one can be rented 1.5 kilometers from the Inn. The Roundstone Inn would be more than pleased to reserve one on your behalf. We can also provide local transportation.
